One of the most beautiful valleys in Madeira
Ribeira Brava got its name from the river that crosses the island from North to South. It courses through one of the most beautiful valleys in Madeira, bordered by steep high cliffs on either side leading up to the islands highest mountains.
The council is however a seaside territory, with cliffs and cosy coves on the coast. Agriculture is developed in thousands of small plots of land that look like steps, held up by handmade walls made with basalt rocks. The town of Ribeira Brava is very quaint, with a wide seaside front, a pier for recreational vessels and changing rooms for those who choose to take a dip in the sea.
Near town there is a sports training centre with infrastructures for several Olympic sports which has been used by several foreign teams with more rigorous winters at home.
